Blogger, Leandra Medine, better known as the author of the Man Repeller blog, has added a new notch to her belt: that of published book author. Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls (Grand Central Publishing), scheduled for release on September 10th, is a series of essays about the New York-based Medine’s adventures from childhood through to college and marriage and how clothes have played an extremely important role in her life. 24-year-old Leandra Medine’s blog boasts five million followers and reports on fashion in the context of its man repelling status.
For those unfamiliar with the term, Medine provides a dictionary definition: “man re.pell.er [mahn-ree-peller] —noun: outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full-length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.”
Talking to WWD, Medine states, “People often ask me if my parents helped me,” adding afterwards, “My mother did lend me $10 to register the domain name.”
Medine, who is currently looking to hire a third employee to help with her blog, studied journalism in college and has parlayed her blogging success to collaborations with jewelry brand, Dannijo; clothes for PJK and Gryphon; shoes for Del Toro; sneakers for Superga; and styling for Vogue‘s Fashion’s Night Out. Of her success, she is quick to remind that her story is unique and her advice to young, aspiring bloggers is, “Not to quit their day jobs.”
