Bahrain’s Spring of Culture festival is currently celebrating its 9th edition with a range of events dedicated to regional and international contemporary arts, film, theater, music, dance, opera, and cultural performances, which run through the end of April. The 2-month festival has already featured some prominent names, including regional performers Mohammed Abdo and Ghalia Bin Ali, next to international acts such as Eric Clapton, José Carreras, Ramsey Lewis, Phillip Bailey, and the Liaoning Ballet’s, which performed at the National Theatre.
This year’s Spring of Culture edition also includes a special exhibition by Al Riwaq Art Space, which is presenting its annual public arts festival “Alwan338” until April 19th. Set in Adliya, a multicultural and bustling neighborhood of Manama known for its many cafes and art galleries, “Alwan3382 offers a packed schedule of art exhibitions, workshops, screenings, talks, and music events, including American installation artist Chris Lawrence and Swiss visual artist Caroline Palla, amongst others.
Ongoing events include an exhibition entitled “Weaving Colors,” the 33rd Bahrain Heritage Festival, and “Five Hundred Years of Islamic Calligraphy,” that puts masterpieces from the Sakip Sabanci museum (Turkey) on display, both at the city’s National Museum until April 9th and 13th, respectively. Furthermore, Saudi film-maker Haifaa Al Mansour will be giving a lecture at the Shaikh Ebrahim Center for Culture and Research on April 14th.
