The Arab Designers and Talks at Downtown Design 2014

Over on Style.com/Arabia/MEN, Downtown Design director, Cristina Romelli Gervasoni, offered her personal guide to the top ten design features not to be missed during the international design fair scheduled from October 28th-31st.

Also not to be missed will be an original talk led by award-winning Mario Bellini, the design and architectural icon who has worked on such projects as the Dubai Creek Complex and most recently, the Department of Islamic Arts at the Louvre.

Claudio Luti, president of Milan’s renowned Salone del Mobile and world-famous Italian furniture company, Kartell, along with Philippe Zuber, chief operating officer of Emaar Hospitality Group, will also be on hand to further examine the business of design for attendees and exhibitors. To also be discussed during the fair will be Bain & Company’s Luxury Goods Worldwide Market study, which will further examine the region’s growth opportunities.

Finally, another highlight will be an exhibition dedicated to MENA designers. Arwa Hafiz (Saudi Arabia) from the Odd Piece Gallery will showcase vintage, antique, and contemporary design pieces restored using luxurious fabrics, such as silk, satin, and prints. Nanu Al-Hamad (Kuwait) from the Al-Hamad Design Studio will showcase high-end furniture, lighting, and object design. Designer Mohammad Hossein Ghaderi (Iran) will showcase his Bermuda stool created out of triangular shapes along with “whale” coffee tables. Nayef Francis (Lebanon) of the Nayef Francis Design Studio will showcase his ergonomic practical designs. Also participating will be renowned designer, Cherif Morsi (Egypt), and Chacha Atallah (Tunisia) for Slow Maison D’Edition.

 Downtown Design will be held from October 28th—31st at the Venue, Downtown Dubai.
