The Fitness Gurus: Instructor Lashley Pulsipher on Her Workout Routine and Health Inspirations

Lashley Pulsipher has been a fitness instructor for 16 years and is certified to teach a wide range of fitness classes, including yoga, mat and reformer Pilates, Piloxing, The willPower Method, indoor cycling, aqua aerobics, and cardio kickboxing. She began her personal fitness journey by balancing marathon running with regular yoga practice. She studied yoga at the University of Colorado, taught Pilates and aerobics classes on campus to students and athletes, and led a running skills workshop.

Since then, Pulsipher has taught in several cities in the USA, Tunisia, and the UAE and currently teaches at the Mojo Reformer Pilates and Motion Ladies Fitness Center, both in Dubai. We speak to the all-around fitness guru about her health inspirations.


DANNIELLE BLAKER: What tops the list as your favorite workout right now?

LASHLEY PULSIPHER: I’ve been teaching group fitness classes for 16 years and I always have a new favorite. I started weightlifting with the amazing trainers at SHP a few months ago and I love it. The great team—Chris, Ian, Inger, Neal, and Keith—has helped me move past some frustrating injuries and get stronger. I leave my sessions exhausted, but I always feel stronger and confident about the progress I’m making. I’m perfectly capable of putting together a killer workout for myself, but it’s a luxury to have someone else tell me what to do.

Which fitness activity do you want to try?

Gymnastics—talk about an amazing workout. My good friend in Denver, Colorado runs the gymnastics studio Awaken and its Instagram feed gives me some major fitness envy.

Who is your fitness guru?

I have a few, Bret Contreras is one of them. This guy literally wrote the book for women on how to build a beautiful backside. I love his training guide. I use his glutes warm-up in my Pilates classes and with his guidance, I’m going to give Jen Selter a run for her money in the #belfie game.

The other is Stacey Lei Krauss; the central focus of her work is Foot Fitness, which I am a huge advocate of; she has taught thousands of people how to strengthen and smarten their feet, eliminate foot pain, and enhance function and performance. Lastly, Chalene Johnson, who created the best-selling home fitness programs Turbo Fire™, ChaLEAN Extreme™, Turbo Jam™, and the live fitness classes Turbo Kick™, Hip Hop Hustle™, and PiYo™. This tiny, super fit blonde posts tons of killer workouts online for free and now teaches people about marketing, entrepreneurship, and living a balanced life.
