Often during Ramadan, fitness regimes are abandoned, heavy iftar meals replace strict diets, and the time allotted to running on the treadmill is instead spent watching Ramadan soaps. The feelings of lethargy, which accompany fasting, however, didn’t stop Lebanese reality star Nadine Abdel Aziz from sweating it out at the gym. In a 15-second clip posted on her Instagram, the Middle Eastern Kardashian is seen sporting a tight pony and snug workout gear while running on the treadmill, lifting weights, and strengthening her core to maintain her toned physique—“even while fasting.” But before you put on your running shoes or buy a gym membership, take note of the dos and don’ts of fitness while fasting:

DO time your exercise accordingly with iftar. It is important to eat and drink within 30 minutes after physical training.
DON’T overexert yourself. Listen to your body—if you feel weak or nauseous, put your workout on hold until after you have broken your fast.
DO keep your cardio on low intensity. Opt for brisk walking or light jogging instead of sprinting, and avoid weight training while fasting.
DO drink plenty of water during suhoor. Make sure your body is hydrated before you indulge in any physical exercise.
DON’T prolong your exercise. Keep it short and sweet. A 30-minute workout can effectively burn fat.
