Just before jetting off on holiday, an appointment with your hair colorist should top your to-do list as a refreshed color will make you look instantly well-groomed. Whether the aim is to disguise greys or combat dreaded skunk roots, in short, a well-placed foil or two can make you look more youthful. In transient Dubai, good colorists are like gold dust, so if you find one that understands your tresses and your vision, keep him or her close.
Born into the oh-so glamorous hair color category known as mousey brown, it’s fair to say that I’ve tried my share of the pantone spectrum. From the darkest chocolate, to rich auburn, through to ashy peroxide blonde—I have now settled as a dark blonde.
Yesterday marked eight weeks since my last appointment in the chair, after my colorist abandoned me by moving continents. Having heard whispers about Maria Dowling and her team’s magic color skills by glossy girls about town, I headed to her hair salon for an overhaul,
The pretty and bright room was lined with some of Dubai’s finest: luscious ginger locks were being painted with precision to my left while a certain Miss Melina Mitri (of Dubai’s Sauce boutique) with her signature pastel blue locks were transformed to a rich indigo on my right. I sat happily as my stylist applied a warmer, golden L’Oréal Majirel color to my lackluster strands.
With the color finished and Kérastase steam treatment underway, I noticed that each stylist stayed with her client for the duration of their treatment—a nod to good service. It’s rare to see the same pair of hands, cutting, styling, and blow drying your mane—all under the watchful eye of Maria Dowling herself, who was diligently going through her own succession of clientele. After my blow dry and styling was complete, it’s fair to say that I bounced out of the salon with a newfound confidence and smile.
