Smokey eyes and nude lips may be Donatella Versace’s signature beauty look, but for Sunday’s Atelier Versace Fall 2016 Couture show, the Italian designer partnered with makeup maestro Pat McGrath to throw some drama into the mix. While half the models (including Irina Shayk, Stella Maxwell, and Josephine Skriver) were sent down the runway with futuristic, blue winged eyeliner, the other half (including Bella Hadid, Karen Elson, and Taylor Hill) took to the catwalk with red, sparkly lips. Both looks were paired with raked back, wispy chignons crafted by renowned hair stylist Guido Palau. However, it was the berry lip makeup masterpiece that ultimately stole the show.
The dazzling, look-at-me lips made a bold statement, proving that glitter may be the simplest way to turn up the notch on the classic dark lip. To recreate the look, trace your natural lip line with a dark red lip pencil, before reaching for a deep burgundy lipstick or a shiny lipgloss. Then, gently dust red glitter over your lacquer using a wet brush or cotton swab and let it dry. Lock the sparkles in place by pressing your lips together. Finish your look off with a clean complexion, groomed brows, and one or two coats of mascara.
Judging by the models’ collective stamps of approval (cue all the backstage selfies), the scene-stealing look might be posed for a total takeover sooner than expected. Here, we highlight the five products you need to master the makeover yourself.
