Wash and Go

City slickers everywhere will be delighted with the news that wet hair is firmly on the beauty radar this season. Who wouldn’t want to cut morning mirror time by half? The unlikely trend is now starting to filter down to the streets, with off-duty models and beauty mavens giving their hairdryers a well-earned rest. Take their lead and forget the big, bouncy blowout in favor of patent partings that offer a hint of androgynous chic.

Glistening, wet-look locks were in the spotlight on the runways this fall, with a myriad of fashion houses from Christian Dior to Elie Saab to Prada showcasing the look.

Damp Tresses at Prada vs. Unpolished Ponytails at Lanvin

Backstage at Prada, the emphasis was on long and loose tresses coiffed by hair maestro, Guido Palau, who confided to Style.com, “The ultimate ease is wet, just-out-of-the-shower hair. I mean, how chic is that?” Palau added: “The clothes are super rich, so we wanted to break that.” It’s important to note here that the juxtaposition between high-end threads and undone hair is where the charm lies. The look would not have the same effect if you were to sport a tracksuit.

To achieve the damp texture, a healthy measure of Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam mousse was applied, then the lengths were saturated with Redken’s Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine Serum.

At Lanvin, the beauty order of the day was side-swept, low slung ponytails “drenched” in shine, Palau divulged to Style.com. With an emphasis on “undone” prettiness, the hair was crafted as though the models had pulled their hair back themselves. Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist was spritzed over locks followed by a sweeping of Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine Intense serum.
