Post-Met Gala, Rihanna quickly swapped her imperial yellow Guo Pei cape with a lengthy train (a look that required multiple hands to carry up the crimson stairs at the museum) for a more manageable black jumpsuit. Her swirly golden headpiece was also ditched in favor of a far less complicated accessory: rows of gilded grips. Typically concealed, bobby pins also stood front and center at Cushnie et Ochs’ Fall ’15 show—with hairstylist Antonio Corral Calero using them to keep lacquered, side-parted strands in place.
RiRi’s longtime makeup artist, Mylah Morales, found her inspiration for the red carpet in a Richard Avedon photograph of China Machado from a 1958 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “We weren’t sure what she was going to wear, so I just wanted to go with my version of that [Avedon] photograph,” said the pro. After emboldening brows with Dior Diorshow Brow Styler in Universal Dark Brown (out in June), she drew the arches straight out for an otherworldly finish. Dior Vibrant Colour Powder Blush in Star Fuchsia was applied to both cheekbones and lids, with a slightly darker rose shade from the Dior 5 Couleurs Designer Eyeshadow palette in Nude Pink Design applied to the crease to create dimension. Liquid liner flicked out at the ends and a nude lip (Rouge Dior Lipstick in Paname) completed the regal package. When the after-parties finally rolled around, a quick swipe of crimson was all RiRi needed to glam up her more dressed-down look.
