Master the Natural Makeup Look With Kim K

Kim Kardashian West is known for many things; among them is her ability to get the Internet in a frenzy with her daring photo spreads. This time, the reality TV star started social media conversations with the hashtag #KimNoFilter which refers to her au naturel look for the Vogue España photo shoot. Kim K’s face is free of her signature smoky eye and heavy contouring; instead, her natural features are highlighted with the use of barely-there makeup. Tim Quinn, a makeup artist and the national director of creative artistry for Giorgio Armani Beauty, breaks down the barely detectable maquillage in five steps.

Step 1

Prep Your Face: “Prep often takes more time than the makeup,” noted Quinn. Before applying your favorite products, he suggests slipping on a bio-cellulose facemask, like the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminescence Mask, which clings to your skin and provides moisture. Harsh exfoliators should be saved for a night when you’re not going to be using makeup as they can irritate the skin. Massage a light-reflecting moisturizer into the skin to get the blood flowing, which instantly boosts your glow. Puffy eyes can be decreased via a firming eye serum with a metal applicator. Use a layer of balm to keep your lips hydrated and combat dryness and cracking, and add a touch of color.

Step 2

Cover-up Carefully: Use a light-reflecting concealer to minimize shadows under your eyes, around the nose, and under the lips (Quinn likes the Giorgio Armani Beauty Maestro Eraser Concealer). Next, use a beauty blender or a foundation stippling brush to buff a dime-sized drop of foundation into the skin, applying any leftover pigment to the lids for a brightening effect. “Instead of painting it on, applying foundation should be like putting on a moisturizer,” said Quinn, suggesting the Silk Foundation for coverage and Maestro for an undetectable finish. For dark spots and blemishes that need extra attention, he explained, “The idea is to erase instead of packing on something drying.” Quinn recommends a dense concealer like the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage and a pointed brush.

Step 3

Define Eyes and Brows: “You can’t forget the brow with this type of look,” said the makeup artist. “I love a pencil, but with that no-makeup look, unless you’re really an expert, you can see it.” Brush your arches with a cream formula, such as the Giorgio Armani Eye & Brow Maestro. To emphasize the eyes, use a creamy liner pencil on your lash line before adding a couple of coats of mascara.
