Beauty Icon: Twiggy

Twiggy In Hollywood

British model, Lesley Lawson, also known as Twiggy, due to her thin build, rose to fame in the 1960s due to her androgynous looks and big, beautiful eyes. Twiggy accentuated her doe eyes with loads of black mascara and would even draw on an extra layer of lashes underneath her eyes to give the appearance of more volume and length. She kept the rest of her look simple, paring the traditional smoky eye with a nude glossy lip and clear, fresh skin. The supermodel even had her own line of “Twiggy False Eye Lashes” thanks to Yardley of London, one of the oldest cosmetics, perfume, and toiletry companies in the world. Her chopped, boy-meets-girl haircut was also at the forefront of beauty as it came at a time when most women celebrated long tresses.

Follow our steps below for the ultimate Twiggy-inspired eyes.

Step 1: Twiggy hardly ever wore foundation as she preferred to leave her freckles on show. However, if you don’t want to leave your face completely bare, opt for concealer, powder, and a light peach or pink blush instead of a heavy foundation.

Step 3: Using a liquid eyeliner like the Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Eyeliner, line the top lid—the thicker the line the better. Now, this is where it gets tricky: using the same liquid eyeliner, draw individual lines underneath the bottom eye line to create the appearance of longer lashes. While this was a Twiggy staple, it’s difficult to get right, so for a more modern-day look, forgo these “extra lashes” and simply line the bottom lash line with a white eye pencil instead.

Or, for the ultimate Twiggy look, use a set of false lashes like the Sephora Collection Fringe Benefits Lashes. The great thing about these lashes is that they are reusable and come with glue.
