Sonic Beauty: Clarisonic Versus Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush

clinique-sonic-purifying-facial-cleansing-brush-versus-clarisonic-reviewIn an ideal world, skin problems stop after adolescence, but many women (myself included) don’t experience breakouts until well after the teenage years. This can be due to multiple factors, such as changes in hormones, elevated stress, and poor diet. Fortunately, in some cases, the solution to preventing unwanted breakouts lies in three simple steps: cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. But sometimes, after a long day, the last thing we want to do is wash our face before diving into bed. Enter Clinique’s Sonic Purifying Cleansing Brush (US $89; AED/SAR 328), a product designed to ease the hassle of cleaning your face before bedtime.

The sonic brush is rechargeable and waterproof with a battery life of up to three hours, which is pretty good considering that the entire cleansing process takes a total of 45 seconds per day. The brush offers a deep but gentle cleansing. The rotating movement allows it to delve deep into the pores to remove the makeup, oil, and other debris that handwashing often misses. I tested the effectiveness of the brush by massaging my face with a toner-soaked cotton pad; usually, makeup and oil residue surface on the cotton pad, but after using the Sonic Brush, the white cotton pad remained spotless.

So, why should you opt for the Sonic Cleansing Brush instead of the first ever rotating cleansing brush, Clarisonic? Having tested both, I can vouch that the Sonic Brush is more suitable for daily use as it is gentler than the Clarisonic (prices vary per device), which can be too rough on the skin. Clinique’s cleansing brush has one setting and a universal brush whereas the Clarisonic comes with three speed settings and four brushes. The universal brush has a tilted head that allows you to use different areas of the brush for your cheeks and T-zone. Another standout difference between the two products is the price; Clinique’s brush is less costly but just as effective as the Clarisonic.

The Sonic Brush works best with Clinique’s 3-step system that includes a facial soap, exfoliator, and moisturizer. The 3-step system also makes it easy to customize a skincare regime based on your skin type—here’s how:

Very Dry to Dry Skin
