On a trip to the L’Oréal headquarters in Paris to talk about hair dye, I was intrigued to find out the latest hair color crush: “it’s somewhere in between blonde and brunette, and it’s impossibly shiny” I was told by Genevieve Carmichael-Thoris (International Group Manager Color Collections and La Maison L’Oréal Professionnel). This exquisite tonal color can perhaps be mistaken for somewhere between a dirty blonde or a sun-kissed brunette, and after doing my research, it appears that not only has this trend flooded the runways, but there are also several starlets opting to dye their hair more blonde or more brunette to achieve this specific look. Take a tip from Gisele, J-LO and Shakira—move over ombré, bronde is the latest buzzword in hair color. So, whether you need to start uplighting, highlighting, or lowlighting your own locks to sport a bronde mop, you can book in a tête-à-tête with your colorist to discuss the right hair dye options for you. Step 1

Book a consultation with your colorist to find the right shade of bronde for you. Ask whether it should be more golden, more beige, or ashy in tone. How light or how dark should you go? How many highlights? Make sure to take inspiration pictures of the bronde looks you like to help illustrate this conversation with your colorist.

Step 2

Depending on how light or dark your hair is, your colorist may need to precolor your hair to replace any missing pigments to create a base for your new bronde look. This often involves coloring the hair first in a warmer hue (for blondes) or pre-lightening the hair (for brunettes) to provide a base upon which the bronde hair colors can be applied. Get the look: Straight from the Runway

Step 3

Once your colorist has created a suitable starting base, he or she will apply a global color (for example, L’Oréal Professionnel Majirel Cool Cover or Majirel Mochas) plus highlights to achieve the multidimensional look. The Bronde result is obtained by having darker color at the roots that lightens softly at the ends. This lightening effect can be achieved by applying a lighter mocha color at the ends and/or by adding a few balayage highlights (a technique which is applied freestyle by hand rather than with the individual foils) through the lengths and ends.

Step 4

To seal in the color, your hairdresser can use the L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert FiberCeutic treatment (or another comparable treatment) to strengthen the hair fiber and ensure the longevity of your color.

Step 5

Your hairdresser will help you chose a suitable shampoo and masque specifically designed for color treated hair.
