Landing her first-ever beauty campaign, actress Winona Ryder has been revealed as the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty (Spring 2016) via the designer’s Instagram page. The 44-year-old is featured in a stunning image that evokes a retro vibe. She rests her head against a mirror next to a string of pearls, sporting a sharp, extended cat-eye outlined with white eyeshadow, bold eyebrows, and nude lips. “It is with great pride (and pleasure) that I ‘leak’ this image from our upcoming 2016 Marc Jacobs Beauty campaign,” Jacobs captioned the photo, adding, “It stars my dear friend (of over two and a half decades), the stunningly beautiful, and extraordinarily talented, Winona Ryder.”
Inspired by one of the designer’s favorite films, The Last Year at Marienbad, and actress Delphine Seyrig, the campaign has been shot by fashion photographer David Sims, with makeup by Diane Kendal, and taps into Ryder’s embodiment of “cool, elegant, and timeless chic.”
Almost 14 years have passed since the Black Swan actress was convicted for theft after shoplifting designer clothing (including a Marc Jacobs sweater) worth more than US $5,000 from Saks Fifth Avenue, but it appears that the incident did not affect the fashion designer’s relationship with his long-time friend in the least. Jacobs also shared a series of snapshots of himself and Ryder together over the years. Indeed, the nostalgic trip down memory lane is sweet, but we’re looking forward to seeing more of the campaign images.
