Three Beauty Looks We Loved at the VMAs

The colored mascara trend started off strong this summer, with Chanel and Dior both releasing Technicolor tubes, and Solange Knowles finally showed the world how to wear it last night at the Video Music Awards. In an interview with Elle.com, Knowles said her makeup artist dipped the ends of her fringe in a “heavy red pigment” to achieve “the density of a full black lash.” For the rest of us who aren’t up against a flurry of flashbulbs, get a similar look in just a few swipes with Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in Rouge Noir. Jourdan Dunn opted for a chop by hair pro Renda Attia (styled by Larry Sims)—hacking off that gorgeous halo of curls we loved last week. (For the record, we’re just as envious of her sleek strands.) And Rita Ora made a significant investment in her Azature manicure—showing off ruby red stiletto nails studded with spiders that reportedly cost $56K. Iggy Azalea might have brought the booty to the stage for their performance of “Black Widow,” but the Brit’s tips had plenty of swagger.
