Valentino Makes a Case for Epic Ponytails—Again

Mimicking the snow globe-like conditions in Manhattan, a flurry of diaphanous dresses in varying shades of white floated down Valentino’s Sala Bianca Haute Couture runway in New York City last night. The show was intended to celebrate the brand’s largest global flagship store, but here in the beauty department, we saw it as a party for the ponytail. Reminiscent of the 26-inch, “bubble” iterations seen on the house’s Fall 2014 catwalk, this edition crafted by hair pro Guido Palau was equally as extreme in length, but smoothed to perfection. Clean center parts and bluntly hacked ends mirrored the impeccable tailoring on crisp coats, skirts, and trousers, while pearly shimmer placed high on models’ cheekbones by Pat McGrath played off the sheer, gauzy fabrics in the collection. Set against the seamless backdrop of a cream-colored cape, we can think of no better way to make a dramatic exit from a holiday fete and brave a blizzard than with a long, luxe tail.
