Summer may be the season to embrace the reigning no-makeup makeup trend, but it can be tricky to pull off when you don’t have a flawless complexion to begin with. The Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector just arrived on my beauty desk, so I decided to go ahead and give it a spin. Read my review below.

THE PRODUCT

The Urban Decay One & Done Complexion Perfector (US $34; AED/SAR 125) is a metallic tube of CC-Cream-meets-foundation that is meant to hide blemishes, blur imperfections, shrink pores, and even out skin tone. The multitasking formula is oil-free, but packed with peptides, antioxidants, and moisturizers to ensure that the skin stays hydrated and glowing without blocking pores or causing any unwanted breakouts. The formula includes extracts from the wu zhu yu plant to improve the skin’s radiance, tone, and texture over time, as well as an SPF of 20—meaning that the product offers long-term anti-aging benefits, too.

I have extremely oily skin and thus applied the lightweight product over a shine-control primer with a stippling foundation brush. Because the coverage is very sheer (but buildable), I patted a heavy duty concealer over my problem areas and blemishes. Those who have dry skin can apply the product after a moisturizer for an added dose of hydration. The formula’s thin-as-skin finish evened out my complexion, but was sheer enough to reveal my skin underneath. By midday however, my T-zone had an extremely shiny appearance so I’ll be sticking to my matte foundations for now—but I know what to reach for on the days I need to fake a flawless complexion.

MY VERDICT

All in all, I am impressed with the product. As someone with extremely reactive skin, I don’t like to pack too much product onto my face. The moisturizer-meets-foundation formula does a solid job of providing hydration and coverage at the same time (not to mention streamlining my morning beauty routine). The treating benefits are an added bonus, which I believe will encourage many foundation wearers to switch out their heavy-duty creams for a lighter formula.
