“It should be a nod to, but not a copy of, the makeup at the Spring 2013 show,” face painter Vincent Oquendo said of the graphic cobalt liner Ginta Lapina wore to the Versus party last night. “I thought about how I could marry the Versus look with a Versace look and make it red-carpet-worthy—that’s where the black came in.” Using Laura Mercier Crème Eyeliner in Indigo, he crafted a sharp band of blue from inner to outer corner, then rimmed the inside of the eye with Anastasia Beverly Hills Covet Waterproof Eyeliner, marrying the black and cobalt at the corners with a slight point for a subtle Egyptian vibe. “When you put blue close to the whites of the eyes, it makes them appear brighter,” he explained. Lashes were coated with black mascara and then topped with Anastasia’s clear waterproof top coat to prevent black dots from appearing on brow bones every time she blinked. “She’s very blessed,” Oquendo quipped, referring to Lapina’s lush lashes. (To that statement we cue the hashtag: #modelproblems.) The rest of the face was kept fairly simple: He pressed Dolce & Gabbana’s  Classic Cream Lipstick in Mandorla into Ginta’s pout with his fingers and created the “anti-blush” sculpted cheek with the same makeup prescription he used on Daria Strokous earlier in the week. “I didn’t want her to look too lady—I like to make my girls a bit tougher,” Oquendo said. The scaled-down-but-still-razor-sharp flicks definitely did the job.
