Beauty Sound Bites: Blush Talk

Blusher, “it’s what defines a woman.”

—Tom Pecheux told Style.com

And yes, Tom; I agree.

This week, we covered our selection of the over 40 and fabulous beauties, and I noted that every one of them was sporting a blusher of some kind. A dabbing of color on the cheeks helps to soften the face and bring a healthy sweep of color, that, when well placed can have an anti-aging effect.

How to apply?

To create a “healthy-living” makeup look, as suggested by Tom Pecheux, take your fluffy brush and apply it to the outside contour of your cheeks. Then, spread the pigment towards the top of your cheeks for stronger shape and structure, overall. And if you’re not feeling perky on the inside, your cheeks can do the talking.

If you stick to the skin tone rule, you’ll be on the right track: cold skin tones can sport blue-toned pinks and raspberry stains, and warm skins should opt for the more peachy coral family. Those with a darker complexion can go wild with a dusting of really high octane pinks and burnished oranges. Just remember to keep a light touch during application—you can always add a layer or two for more definition, but go too far and it’s a long way back.

With many formulas available in an extensive pantone of hues, here are ten of our favorites.
