The Fab Five: Rose Water

Roses, in general, have long been recognized for their gently beautifying properties. Rose water is the byproduct of steam distillation and its applications are plentiful: it serves as an anti-inflammatory agent, making it perfect for sensitive and irritated types; it’s an antioxidant, so it will protect your skin from UV and environmental damage; and it’s regenerative, giving sluggish skin cells a productive boost.

Sometimes it takes a glance back at the beauty rituals that have stood the test of time in order to find the key to truly transformative skincare. Rose water is one such staple and is as invaluable now as it was generations ago when it was first introduced into Middle Eastern beauty rituals.

How to Apply

The beauty of rose water is that it’s gentle enough to be used on any skin type, no matter how sensitive. In its spray form, it can be misted over just-cleansed skin or can also be spritzed over your make-up to top-up your hydration levels during the day.

When using rose water as part of a thorough cleanse, the optimum time to apply it to your skin is after your first step cleanser. Mist over the skin or swab on with a cotton pad—you can use it around the eye area without suffering any irritation. Follow with your usual serum and moisturizer.
