It is that time of the year when the beauty world calls for sparkling palettes that can help transform your look from office to party-appropriate in minutes and save you from having to cram the contents of your makeup bag into your delicate clutch.
Shiseido has created Sparkling Party Palette that looks full of promise from the outside, adorned with sparkling multicolored gems; but on the inside, it comes across as something I would have painted on my Barbie doll at the age of 6.
A great palette will almost always have a strategic focus: eyeshadow plus eyeliner create a great smoky eye, while lipstick and blusher give your face both contour and color—you get the point. Trying to take on too many variables with limited space can see a palette fall short.
This party palette with its red lipstick, deep brown and yellow miniature eyeshadows, pale pink sparkling blusher, and navy sparkling eyeliner is, in a word, confused. Not only is the color palette odd, the size of each product is wrong—and don’t even get me started on the textures. The brown eyeshadow and the blusher, both of which have a lovely pigment (the rest failed this test), are overshadowed by the eye color base that has a larger surface area than many of the other components. This season, we will only use this palette for its pretty mirror—that is if it makes it into our handbag, along with all the other makeup we will need.
