Every once in a while there’s a red carpet beauty look that really wows us, and that’s how we feel about Shay Mitchell’s loose, romantic side braid and dark berry lips at FOX’s 2014 Teen Choice Awards. Hairstylist Daven Mayeda used Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to rough up the texture and Affinage Dry Mud Pomade for a matte finish. He then fastened the Pretty Little Liars star’s braid with a graphic silver ring to add a little bling.
How to get the look:
To get Shay’s messy braid, create a side part then add volume and texture with plenty of dry shampoo. Lightly tease your hair at the crown and then split it into two sections. Keeping your hair on the side of the part, begin to braid by pulling a bit of hair from the outside of one section over to the center of the other section, then repeat for the other side and continue until your braid is the desired length. Once you’ve reached the bottom, fasten the braid with an elastic band and loosen by lightly tugging on outer sections throughout and spritz with hairspray to hold.
