Rooney Mara Makes a Case for the Mini Middle Part

Hair divided down the center continues to reign on the runway, but for the photo call and premiere of Carol in Cannes this weekend, Rooney Mara made a strong case for stopping short on your big day—at least when it comes to your part. Hairstylist Adir Abergel crafted a “half updo,” as he described on Instagram, for the afternoon event—making a clean split from forehead to crown (a technique Guido Palau employed at Valentino’s Fall ’15 show) before winding the top section into a messy knot. For evening, the pro kept the same abbreviated part in front, but pulled Mara’s length up and off her shoulders. Makeup artist Kate Lee transitioned the tonal peach lids, lips, and cheeks she crafted during daylight hours by intensifying each area with a more dramatic violet hue after dark. With wedding season only weeks away (and Mara donning an ivory Alexander McQueen dress during the afternoon and a fluttery white Rochas gown at night), we can’t think of a better way to quickly shift your beauty look from ceremony to reception.
