The Eye-Brightening Trick We Learned Backstage

“She’s like a pretty doll, but a bit strange,” makeup artist Lucia Pieroni said of Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s woman at Rochas. The sweet aspect came courtesy of pastel pink shadow layered with pale blue from Clé de Peau Beauté’s forthcoming Eye Color Quad in 310, while the oddness entered the picture via tangled lashes and two circles drawn beneath the pupils (a technique seen previously on the runway at Givenchy and on red carpet rebels like Zoë Kravitz). While the Japanese beauty brand makes a truly exceptional concealer (my personal favorite, in fact), Pieroni says that, from far away—or just the first row—the double dots have an “eye-opening” effect. After layering on “tons” of mascara and pinching fringe together to form “petal-like” clusters, the pro used black liner to mark the spot in the center of the lower lash line. A cotton swab dipped in mascara, or just the tip of the wand, was pressed over top to make each point budge-proof. “Mascara doesn’t move like liner—it’s difficult to get off, but it stays there,” she noted. With plenty of Bioderma makeup remover on hand, I’m trying this brightening trick for tired eyes (along with a double espresso) tomorrow morning.
