Internationally renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath partnered with Barbie during Paris Fashion Week to create four new looks that were shared exclusively on the @Barbiestyle Instagram account. Here, the iconic figure is featured having lunch in Milan, strolling though London with a cup of tea, and shopping in Paris.
“For the Instagram collaboration, I wanted to present Barbie in a modern way, showing how makeup can be a tool for creative self-expression,” said McGrath, who hand-painted the looks based off of her most notable runway and red carpet moments.
In the first image, a brunette Barbie with Swarovski crystal rimmed eyes is reminiscent of McGrath’s face jewels at the latest Givenchy Spring 2016 show. Next, Barbie was transformed into Jessica Stam circa 2004 with bleach blond hair shaved on one side and bold, geometric eyes. The “punk” Barbie came with a septum piercing, dramatic cat eyes, and face jewels inspired by McGrath’s backstage look at the 2013 Met Gala. Meanwhile, the raven-haired Barbie with blunt bangs wore teal eyeshadow that was similar to the makeup at the Atelier Versace Fall 2014 show.
