“Fragrance is incredibly personal, which led us down the path of exploring a modern, intimate moment and what it means today. For us, that moment is about sensuality. We chose notes that reflect those feelings for us.”
—Mary-Kate Olsen, to Harper’s Bazaar
Hot on the heels of their celebrated spring collections for their high-end fashion label, The Row, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have turned their attention to the fragrance game. This time, it’s under the umbrella of their contemporary clothing label, Elizabeth And James (launched in 2007). In collaboration with beauty superstore Sephora, the Olsen twins have expanded the line by launching a pair of perfumes in January: Nirvana White and Nirvana Black.
The Olsens have tinkered with scent in the past—in 2006 the pair launched a line of body sprays (Malibu Style, London Beat, and South Beach Chic), designed to capture the hearts of their teenage devotees. This time around, a more sophisticated olfactive journey is on the cards. Nirvana White is a mix of peony, muguet, and musk while Nirvana Black is a heady mix of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla.
The two scents, encapsulated in distinctive bottles (one white and one black), look akin to a pair of retro cigarette holders and have a masculine edge to them, which will make a pretty addition to any dressing table or bathroom cabinet. Both are also available in a handy rollerball, so you can top up your scent on the go—regardless of the size of your arm candy.
