In addition to anklets, flavored lipgloss, and chokers, the double bun has been added to the growing repertoire of ‘90s trends that are being resurrected by the fashion set. The 23-year-old Lebanese singer and hair chameleon, Nina Abdel Malak, recently shared a photo with her 1.2 million followers that showed her covering her face with one hand—which served to draw attention to the messy, double bun hairstyle atop her head.

Another celebrity to take the nostalgic hairstyle for a spin is Kendall Jenner. The model twisted her raven tresses into two knots on the top of her head, and sprinkled a trail of glitter along her center parting for an alternative look at Coachella. Prior to that, Jenner’s older sister Khloé Kardashian uploaded a photo on Instagram with her flaxen hair twisted into two neat chignons.

Double buns make for a no-fuss look that works as a strong first line of defense against humidity and frizz, and is a fun alternative to the classic messy bun. Other festivalgoers seen sporting the nostalgic chignons at Coachella included singer Katy Perry and blogger Chiara Ferragni, proving that the playful hairstyle isn’t just for kids.
