With temperatures heating up, my beauty order at the moment is finding a lightweight formula that evens out my skin without suffocating my pores. So when I heard that there was a new Nars foundation on the market, I decided to give it a spin. Read the full Nars Velvet Matte Foundation (US $44; AED/SAR 162) review below.

THE PRODUCT

Available in 12 different shades, this foundation—which is actually a tinted moisturizer—blends color correcting pigments with a moisturizer in a sleek, black tube to provide a flawless complexion that would rival that of even the most heavy duty foundations. The formula is buildable so you can dial up the coverage from sheer to full almost instantly.

The multitasking product is infused with rosefruit extract (to minimize the appearance of pores) and vitamins C and E as well as an SPF 30 to protect the delicate dermis from environmental stressors—doubling as a sunscreen and anti-aging potion in one.

“Those with oily skin will benefit from this product the most,” said Nars international makeup artist, Marco Castro. “It can be a challenge to find a tinted moisturizer that dries matte and won’t make your complexion greasy by midday,” he added. In other words, using this product means that you won’t have to carry an arsenal of blotting papers in your beauty bag to keep oil at bay.

MY EXPERIENCE

I squeezed a few drops of the creamy formula directly onto my cleansed face and blended it in to my skin with my fingers. To fully test the effectiveness of the product, I decided to forego my anti-shine primer or any dusting of setting powder on top.

MY VERDICT

The formula gave me a shine-free complexion that still managed to emit a natural and youthful glow. Despite skipping powder and setting spray, the product remained smear-proof for over 9 hours—which will undoubtedly make the lightweight formula a go-to in our hot, Middle Eastern climate. I recommend the Nars Velvet Matte Foundation to anyone with oily skin in search of a new cover up.
