The fact that Jeremy Scott’s first fragrance for Moschino comes burrowed inside a teddy bear should come as no surprise. The designer (who currently has Walt Disney’s biography and Toy Wars on his bedside table) not only dedicated his last collection to Barbie, but before Scott was even involved with the house, founder Franco Moschino sent a coat and hat combo laden with the stuffed animal down his Fall ’88 runway. (The ensemble was reborn for the Spring ’14 show.) What better way to capture the hearts and minds of editors and the public than with a fashion and childhood throwback? Not to mention, it’s the perfect toy to pair with a Moschino Happy Meal purse.
Scent is typically such a stuffy subject, and similar to Scott’s ode to Mattel, this eau is less about the complexity of the notes or the duration of the dry-down, and all about bringing “joy” to the people. Who cares what it smells like (as the brand has made clear by not posting the breakdown of the scent on its website)? After all, as the fanatical reception to Scott’s irreverent clothes and accessories makes clear, fun is anything but played out.
