It’s Barbie’s World—We Just Live in It

Laughing plastic, it’s fantastic—or at least Jeremy Scott thinks so. Replicas of the real-life runway dolls sat on showgoers’ seats at Moschino (styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, of course). And the Barbie theme continued in full force backstage, with one model test-driving her roller skates through the shadowy stone corridors. Glossy bubblegum pouts (to match the plethora of pink in the collection) and over-the-top blond, black, and brunette bouffants (which hair pro Paul Hanlon created by piecing together four wigs) completed the catwalk effect.

“She’s not drag queen Barbie,” face painter Lucia Pieroni said of the relatively pared-back approach she took to the makeup. Two sets of false lashes and multiple coats of black mascara were used to bulk up eyes, while MAC Pigment in Lily White added a natural (not plastic) sheen to complexions. Seeing as Barbie now has a custom wardrobe from Moschino, she needed a lipstick to match: Pieroni blended white, pink, and yellow Lipmix to create the perfect non-Pepto pink. “The yellow gives it a bit of balls,” she said. And “balls” are definitely not something the Moschino woman lacks (despite what a doll’s anatomy may tell you)—after all, this babe hails from Milano, not Malibu.
