Microblading: The Only Face Tattoo We’re Okay With

Any girl with expertly sculpted brows—via the help of pencils, powders, and gels, of course— can attest to the (very rational) fear of looking at one’s reflection after a long summer night to find smudged streaks of brown pigment in lieu of eyebrows. And with the hotter season just around the corner, don’t even think about cooling off at the beach or reposing poolside with a set of flawless arches unless you’re fully equipped with a compact and beauty kit to ensure that your brows remain intact throughout the day. This is where microblading comes across as more appealing than ever.

Also known as semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement, this trompe l’oeil technique was recently highlighted by Huda Kattan in a short clip on her Instagram page. The smudge-proof method works by employing a very small blade to deposit pigment under the skin, and thus creates the appearance of hair. The result is a set of defined, fuller, and natural looking arches that render any eyebrow sculpting kit or pencil unnecessary.

Unlike the permanent results that come with sharpie-esque eyebrow tattoos, or the transplants that Lebanese TV host Joelle Mardinian recently underwent, the effects of microblading only last up to a year—which might be a good thing—considering the ever-changing eyebrow trends.

Microblading is ideal for those who want to fully define, reshape, cover bald spots or fill in overly plucked brows. The meticulous process takes more than two hours to complete, since the microblading pen draws on individual strokes one by one; and it is a relatively painless procedure that will cost you up to US $900; AED/SAR 3,305. But then, you can’t put a price on waking up with flawless, smudge-proof eyebrows every morning.
