Does La Mer Have the Antidote to Tired Eyes?

Earlier this month, we saw Olivia Palermo and her husband, Johannes Huebl, light up the screen for La Mer’s The Illuminating Eye Gel (US $145; AED/SAR 530) and now, the brand’s latest product is arriving on our shores this Sunday, February 1st.

The result of five years of scientific research and testing, this gel “harnesses the antioxidant power from varying types of algae and sea kelp,” the La Mer Education Director, Sarantis Tsimilimis, told Style.com/Arabia. “After the harvesting stage, the algae and sea kelp is flown to a laboratory in California for a one-month fermentation process. And yes, it includes Dr. Max Huber’s famous age-fighting Miracle Broth™.”

When applied to the eye area, this cooling gel has a very soothing effect. It can be dabbed (delicately) underneath the eye and swept across the eyelid itself to act like an eyeshadow primer. What is the product’s unique selling point? The brightening effect it has on the skin due to the light-reflecting sea pearls. Designed for those on the go, it comes in a travel friendly pump dispenser and can be applied both before and after makeup.

I tried this hydrating anti-fatigue formula followed by a slick of La Mer’s The Radiant Concealer Broad Spectrum SPF 25 (US $70; AED/SAR 256) and saw a marked improvement on the spot. The concealer, helped by the Illuminating Eye Gel base, disguised my dark circles and dried down to a very velvety finish. This concealer also has an additional SPF—in any case, when your eyes look this bright, they don’t need to be masked by a pair of oversized sunglasses.

Why do we need to take more care of our eyes?

The skin around the eye contour is the most delicate of all. You need to take special care when applying skincare or makeup to this area so that you don’t damage the skin. The eye area is the first to show signs of fatigue and lack of sleep and dehydration lead to a crepe-like appearance and ultimately, premature aging.

Next, La Mer is going to unveil a skincare and makeup hybrid in the form of a revitalizing skin tint (launching in May). Here’s to a summer of “no-makeup makeup.”
