The British Museum on London’s Great Russell Street provided a breathtaking backdrop to Jonathan Saunders’ show, so it was essential that the hair and makeup be nothing short of a masterpiece.
Luke Hersheson developed a styling technique to achieve a perfectly flat, Pre-Raphaelite wave. He misted hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Volume Constructor before feeding it through his namesake Titanium Ionic Professional flatiron—clamping sections with the straightener in a zigzag pattern from root to ends. “I’m not brushing it because I don’t want it to be fluffy,” he explained. “Jonathan told me that he wanted to ‘feel’ the hair but didn’t want anything romantic, and a flat wave delivers that.”
Face painter Lucia Pieroni also did the grand location proud by combining MAC Mixing Medium with Reflects in Red and Gold, then blending it over the eye. For an otherworldly glow, she also tapped the Mixing Medium onto the high points of the face. “With this look I’m really going for something very ethereal—it’s a little twinkly,” she said. A smart move, seeing as the latticed glass ceiling above the catwalk allowed plenty of natural light to bounce beautifully off the strategically placed shimmer.
