Jeremy Scott’s New Adidas Fragrance Gives You Wings

Jeremy Scott undoubtedly has his finger on the pulse of pop culture—from Hershey Bars to Barbie to Miley Cyrus, the designer has found a way to infuse them all into his quirky fashion world. His first fragrance for Adidas Originals (out in February) is no different in that it plays upon the continuous cultlike obsession around sneakers. Nearly every high-end house has sent trainers down its runway (think Dior and Chanel), and sneakerhead Alexander Wang was so inspired that his entire Spring ’15 collection revolved around running shoes. The bottle shape for Scott’s unisex scent is based upon his winged high-tops for the athletic brand. Reminiscent of the sandals belonging to the Greek god Hermes, the limited-edition flacon—rather than the formula inside—was Scott’s primary concern. While he provided noses with a few references like “white towels freshly laundered on a summer’s day,” he admitted to WWD that his “talents lie in the visual and not in the olfactory.” Scott is more interested in the “iconography of perfumes,” citing Elizabeth Taylor’s famous line for White Diamonds—“These have always brought me luck”—as an example. With a campaign shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the designer seems destined to carve out his own place in perfume history. His eau for Moschino, Toy—which comes stuffed inside a teddy bear—is already a runaway hit, and we expect this bottle that comes burrowed in a shoebox to generate the same type of excitement as a crisp pair of Stan Smiths.

Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals, US $105; AED/SAR 386, available in February.
