We chatted exclusively with Haq about her love for lipstick, favorite beauty hot spots in Saudi Arabia, and what she thinks about contouring.
Gracie Stewart: How did your career in beauty begin?
Nilo Haq: My quest began when I wanted to fill a vacuum in my life during my university days. I explored many things that I thought I liked, but I felt happiest when I connected with beauty and makeup. I was always good at makeup, so I started taking classes and from there things started falling into place.
What are your three best-kept beauty secrets?
1. Exfoliation is the secret to youthful skin.
2. Frequently alternate your skincare regimen.
3. Moisturize with natural oils a few times a week.
If you could only choose three products to wear for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
First off, the Diorskin Star Fluid Foundation (US $50; AED/SAR 183); I’ve tried hundreds of foundations over the years and I’ve never loved any other so much. It gives great coverage that still looks natural and it makes the skin glow. Everyone I’ve recommended it to loves it.
Next, the Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel in 77 (US $13; AED/SAR 47), it is the blackest black eyeliner I’ve come across. It is extremely long wearing and is super easy to apply.
Lastly, the MAC Cosmetics Fix + Spray (US $22; AED/SAR 80). Everyone should own one of these. You can use it in so many ways: prep the skin with it before foundation, use it on top of foundation to add some moisture, or layer in-between to create dewiness.
