“It’s not a flat and flawless,” said makeup artist Dick Page of the bombshell beauty look at Victoria’s Secret undergarment spectacular that took place tonight in London. “It’s an animated, mobile face, particularly because of the nature of the show—the girls are practically dancing, they’re moving and smiling and this is the kind of makeup that suits that.” A theatrical red pigment was blended onto the apples of the cheeks with a brush, sponge, or fingertips before it was topped with a sheer, cream bronzer. “This gives the idea of a tan without the full shake and bake,” he noted. Taupe and brown shadows, along with caviar-colored liner and a light lashing of black mascara, provided lids with subtle definition without “getting in the way.” A pearl hue was tapped into the inner corners to make eyes look “flashy.” Surprisingly, the pro reached for a rather nineties-esque, nude gloss as a finishing touch. “You get a beige lip without it looking, flat, pasty, or dull,” explained Page of layering his custom-blended concoction over a bubblegum pink stain.
The waves we all know, love, and try to replicate were also alive and well across the pond. Hairstylist Akki was on hand behind the scenes with a GHD Curve Classic Curl Iron at the ready. After working a golf ball-size amount of Victoria’s Secret Hair Mega-Lift Mousse through each model’s length, he wrapped small sections around the high-tech wand (minus the clamp), leaving the ends out. To achieve the romp-in-the-sheets effect the Angels are known for across the globe, he raked a wide-tooth comb through ringlets or blasted over the top with a blow-dryer while separating strands with his fingers. Perfection, apparently, is overrated—even when it comes to the most heavenly runway on earth.
