While 2015 was the year of unconventional hair colors, now it seems that even rainbow hair is about to be upstaged. Kicking off 2016 is glow-in-the-dark hair, a trend that humors the desire to have rainbow tresses during the day that transform once the lights are out.
The high-voltage hair trend picked up steam on Instagram, where many users with candy-coated manes took to the app to show off their irradiating, neon streaks underneath a blacklight, or in a dark room.
Blacklight-sensitive, semi-permanent hair dyes, like the Manic Panic High Voltage Classic Cream Formula Hair Color (US $14; AED/SAR 51), are used to create the glow-in-the-dark effect. The dye comes in a range of shades such as Hot Hot Pink and Electric Lizard.
Just remember to condition your mane thoroughly before you give it a go—as someone who attempted hot pink streaks while rainbow hair was the trend du jour, I can attest that colorful cream dye is in fact extremely drying.
We’re not sure if the inaugural hair trend is an indication of a brighter and bolder year ahead, but we’re certainly anticipating what the rest of 2016 has to offer.
