How to Glisten Up Your Eyelids

@Tompecheux

The fastest way to add an editorial edge to your canvas is with a set of glossy eyelids. A formidable beauty trend from the ‘90s, we saw inked-out, liquid lids that took the rock-chick look to next level of cool versus clear, perspex eyelids that made for a fresh and modern interpretation, as sported by the likes of singer Natalie Imbruglia in her music video, Torn.

Glassy sheens are firmly back in the beauty spotlight for next spring, as spotted on the runway at the Sophie Theallet Spring 2015 show. Key makeup artist, Tom Pecheux, created a metallic, burgundy gloss designed to steal the show at night, best worn with copious coats of mascara and a dabbing of highlighter across the upper edge of your cheekbones.

Another show that took to the trend was the MM6 Maison Marton Margiela Spring 2015. The models’ lids were saturated backstage in a pearlescent gloss courtesy of makeup artist, Benjamin Puckey. The M.A.C. Pro Eye Gloss in Pearl Varnish was slicked across the eyelids while the M.A.C. Pro Clear Gloss mimicked the futuristic sheen across the cheeks.

A word of warning when it comes to glossy textures: this is a very high maintenance beauty trend. The liquid formulas tend to sit in your eyelid creases so you have to make regular compact checks to ensure separation hasn’t occurred. M.A.C. Pro makeup artist for the Middle East, Vimi Joshi, told me once that the soaring temperatures in Dubai melted her own eye gloss, which then ran into her eyes, forcing her to pull over on the highway until she could see. Talk about a makeup meltdown.
