Become a Givenchy Beauty This Fall

Last week, Style.com/Arabia had a beauty date with Givenchy to discover its Fall 2014 Couture line of makeup, aptly named “Extravagancia.” Head makeup artist, Nicolas Degennes, was in attendance to take us through the pending products, along with the face, Mariacarla Boscono. Givenchy’s Global President, M. Thierry Maman, revealed that in four years, Givenchy Beauty has doubled its sales.

Luxurious and, indeed, very “Couture,” the makeup was ceremoniously unveiled to a throng of journalists flown into Paris from all over the world. Fingers dabbed at the Extravagancia palette beholding a sumptuous mix of satin brown, violet, and nacre silver and gold eyeshadows, while journalists ooh’d and ah’d at the luminous rose lip color. Other highlights of the line include a limited edition blush made of non-stick polymere gel formula (so it’s not tacky to the touch); the Noir Couture Volume liner and mascara in black or deep purple; as well as Rose Extravagant and Poupre Inouï lipsticks. But the real show stoppers were the Le Prisme Première powders, intended to leave one with a matte and luminous visage all in one stroke. Degennes himself lit up when speaking to us about his own decade-long journey with Givenchy and the lead-up to the launch of this latest makeup line.

“I was really a big artist and I always wanted to be a makeup artist, in the huge way of saying it,” he exclaimed spreading his arms open wide for effect. “When I was first offered the job, I called a friend to ask what he thought and he told me, ‘If you can change things at Givenchy, stay there—otherwise, leave after three years.’” Certainly, after ten years with the Maison and still bearing a grin with all the excitement of a young teenager (though he appears to be well in his fifties), Degennes has decidedly found his calling at Givenchy. “My vision from the beginning was getting back to the ethos of Hubert de Givenchy. Going back to the first step, to the work, making it more modern, more luxurious, more freeing—more ‘Givenchy.’”

Look for our forthcoming review of the Givenchy Fall 2014 makeup line along with our exclusive interview with Italian model and muse, Mariacarla Boscono.
