What excites me most about the pending fall makeup collections are the pretty palettes that have been carefully crafted by the pros to create the looks of the coming season. If you are on the lookout for something a little avant-garde, the YSL Couture Palettes come in 11 varying shades and contain 5 highly pigmented eyeshadows that work in harmony with one another to create look-at-me eyelids.
Lloyd Simmonds, the YSL Makeup Creative Director, has created some rather daring color combinations. Encased in a signature gold hardware, there are inky mauves (Couture Palette 05 Surrealiste), minky browns (Couture Palette 03 Afrique), and peacock greens and blues (Couture Palette 10 Lumieres Majorelle).
If you are in the mood to get playful and emulate Cara Delevingne’s bold editorial look from the campaign, listen closely to the advice from the makeup maestro himself:
For long lasting color:
“I prepare the eye area with a little Touche Éclat, then line the eye with Dessin du Regard, and blend to add density to the lashes and intensify the eyes. I then apply eyeshadow using the large applicator with a tapping motion to press and fix the color into the Touche Éclat base, then smoothen and blend with a brush. I then repeat, layering one color over another, from darkest to intensify, to lightest to illuminate—creating a three-dimensional effect.”
For a smoky eye look:
“Layer the shades, building color from darkest to lightest, with the most intense color along the upper and lower lashes, blending upwards and outwards. Follow with a lavish application of Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils for maximum volume and sensuality.”
