“It’s time to vamp up your makeup and get out of your comfort zone. There used to be rules that were never broken…”
—Blair Patterson, Estée Lauder Global Makeup Artistry Director
Meeting with Blair Patterson (an encyclopedia of makeup tricks) during his short tour to Dubai, I broke the cardinal beauty editor rule and didn’t wear any lipstick—probably just as well, for as soon as I sat down for our beauty téte à téte, there were 20 glossy new Estée Lauder shades winking at me from their stand. The Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick is the latest pigment rich presentation from the mega beauty brand.
Which of these beauties is best for olive skin tones?

Pulling out a color chart, Patterson said that I could very well wear any lipstick color—the trick is just to try. Sure enough, as he handed me the vivid purple/pink to apply for myself (you have to get a feel for the way the lipstick feels), I was pleasantly surprised at how inoffensive this shade was on my pout. It actually made my teeth look a brilliant white.
While sampling a few other shades, Patterson told me that these highly saturated lipsticks stay put for 6 hours. But, what makes them unique? “With this long-wear lipstick, there is no need for a lip liner or any layering techniques and it won’t dry your lips,” he said.
