In what has become a burgeoning trend for beauty companies, L’Oréal Paris has elected to hire a more mature spokesperson for the U.K. market: Dame Helen Mirren. The 69-year-old actress joins women like Diane Keaton (age 68), Andie MacDowell (age 56), and Julianne Moore (age 53) as part of the “Because you’re worth it” family. It’s an interesting time for the news to break, as the Spring ’15 runways (like Lanvin) were punctuated by multiple throwback model appearances, and Tilda Swinton (age 53) was recently announced as the newest face of NARS (following Charlotte Rampling’s stint for the brand). And lest we forget, last season Jessica Lange was announced as the woman who would front Marc Jacobs’ cosmetics line. While there are plenty of bright young things on the catwalk, perhaps Mirren herself summed up the reason for the rise in 50-plus women on the fashion and beauty scene: “When you’re young and beautiful, you’re paranoid and miserable.”
