We’ve seen many a makeup artist’s interpretation of the future, and though it looks great on a runway, typically the maquillage is not something you’d want to sport in the here and now. Yadim’s sultry take on outer space at Cushnie et Ochs, however, is something real girls would willingly wear on Earth—possibly on a frigid Friday night as they skipped between NYFW after-parties. “We ended up making it more of a weird, alien-type eye,” he noted of the extraterrestrial inspo blended with ’60s glamour. The pro achieved the dramatic, smoky wing by wielding Maybelline New York Master Kajal and layering an iridescent emerald shadow on top. Baby Lips balm served two purposes: It was swiped across pouts and slicked over lids right before models took to the runway for a “wet” finish.
Lacquered locks were created by Antonio Corral Calero using copious amounts of Moroccanoil Styling Gel and fastened in place with geometrically arranged bobby pins that coordinated with catwalkers’ strands. The futuristic theme was also manifest in the manicure. Polish pro Madeline Poole painted flat studs from a bead supply store with Christian Louboutin Beauté’s Wherever (navy blue) and Ni Toi Ni Moi (teal green) before adhering them to nude nails. But it was perhaps the face painter that summed up the look best: “The girls aren’t afraid of a little beauty. Let’s be real—they like it.” And so do we.
