Today Karl Lagerfeld made all of our Tyrolean dreams come true at Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show—and then some. Staged at the Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Austria, every detail was pure opulence, from the intricately embroidered gowns to the models’ simplistic waves dressed up with major accessories. Hair pro Sam McKnight was inspired by Sissi, the 19th-century Empress of Austria (who Cara Delevingne plays in Lagerfeld’s short film Reincarnation), but he mixed in “a little early-’70s Brigitte Bardot and a lot of 21st-century ease.” The hair was blow-dried away from the face with a dab of L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni Art Mousse, then a sleek temple-to-temple section was pulled back and fastened with a jeweled Chanel barrette, black satin bow, or a combination of both. Next, pieces were tonged and blasted with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray for movement. Some models wore what at first looked like earmuffs comprised of plaits; they were actually super-luxe headphones (McKnight dubbed them “braidphones” on his Instagram). The techy touch was just the thing to give the fairy-tale clothes a present-day spin.
