Beauty Smackdown: The Bold and The Beautiful

Step away from the tweezers, bold brows are here to stay. Dominating the catwalks (quite literally in some cases), there’s no better way to channel summer’s return to all things natural than by sporting bold brows, preferably without the heavy make-up. Sadly, not all of us have been blessed with naturally bold eyebrows, but the beauty of makeup is that we can fake our way to thick, lust-worthy brows. So how can you achieve brows that would put Cara Delevingne’s to shame? With a little grooming and product of course. We put two of the industry’s best brow products to the test and find out which one should get pride of place in your make-up bag.

The Product: Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings
Available in three shades, this handy kit includes a soft, pigmented wax that defines and shapes brows, a color complementing setting powder to keep them looking good, plus discreet tweezers for pesky stray hairs, a hard angle brush, and a blending brush.

The Result:

One of the great things about the Brow Zings kit is that no matter how much product you apply, the end result is always natural looking thanks to the wax/powder combo. Unlike pencils which are known for creating very harsh and defined lines, a powder adds the same definition without looking too severe. The idea behind the brow kit is to first apply the wax to keep stray hairs in place and then apply the powder to fill in sparse areas. I must admit, I often forgo the wax as I find I don’t have time to apply both, but I use the powder every day and find it quick and easy to achieve well-groomed, defined brows.

The Product: Eyeko Brow Gel

This tinted brow gel is infused with conditioning keratin and ginkgo biloba to style, define, and maintain a healthy brow look

The Result:

The greatest thing about this brow gel is that the wand is about a third the size of any other brow wand I’ve ever used and the bristles are extremely short. It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a huge difference in the way your brows look. Brows aren’t big; for the most part they consist of a fairly small patch of hair so the small brush and the short bristles allow for maximum control when it comes to defining. The gel has a slight tint (a universal color) and is infused with a growth enhancing serum—who doesn’t love a multi-tasking product?

THE VERDICT: Although I’ve been a huge advocate of the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings kit for as long as I can remember, I have to admit that I have found a new go-to in the Eyeko Brow Gel. Thanks to this brow gel, I now only have to go through my brows once with the little wand, which both shapes and fills in one easy step. The extremely short bristles allow me to add a touch of tint which ends up looking perfect every time. Plus, with the added growth enhancing serum it’s helping to encourage the natural growth of your brows for bigger, bolder brows, everyday.
