A rifle through hair maestro Sam McKnight’s Instagram and one would think he was a secret florist or botanical alchemist. My personal favorite is one of McKnight lying amidst a plethora of petals that come across as a rather exquisite floral headpiece.
McKnight is a celebrated creative in the fashion field, and the chosen hair guru for runway shows like Chanel, Fendi, and Vivienne Westwood. The intricate ponytail he created for the Chanel Fall 2014 show saw woven threads and crimped lengths adorned with faux camellia flowers thrown in for good measure; this was a masterclass in the art of haute hair.
It comes as little surprise that he has put his talent into a line of hair accessories: a collaborative project with jewelry designer Vicki Sarge (VICKISARGE), who counts a 40-year stint at Erickson Beamon amongst her career accolades. Her pieces have adorned countless modern day icons, including Lady Gaga to Beyoncé and Kate Moss, to name a few.
The collection the pair has produced is called Floramorta and features a series of embellished floral perspex motifs in the shape of hair combs, bobbles, and clips designed to add a little summertime spirit to your tresses. Interestingly, though, McKnight commented to Style.com that he was actually inspired by dying blooms in his garden.
The brightly colored hair accessories will launch at the end of March on Net-a-Porter, so set yourself a little reminder.
