Beauty Instagram Of The Week

The red lip, liquid liner, and smoky eye are all iconic looks that make it into the beauty hall of fame. But an old favorite, the blue eyeshadow, is making a rather extraordinary comeback. Along with the French manicure (written off for years as the choice of the footballer’s wives club) the once-treasured blue eyeshadow has come out from its hiding place in the ‘80s, when it was so often teamed with permed locks complete with scrunchies and spidery lashes courtesy of too many layers of mascara.

Australia-based makeup and hair stylist Max May, founder of beauty website maxmade.com.au, Instagrammed his beauty moodboard to remind us all of the allure of blue.

There are 3 current beauty schools of thought when it comes to a modern interpretation of blue.

1.A flick of liner across the lashline for a graphic hit of color every time you blink.

2.A soft ‘70s-esque wash of metallic-flecked eyeshadow over the entire eyelid.

3.A slick of electric blue mascara on long lashes as an accompaniment to the white eyeshadow trending this summer.

The Do’s & Don’t’s

Do consider blue eyeshadow regardless of your eye color. It can be a particularly flattering shade on blue and brown-eyed belles.

Don’t pair blue eyeshadow with black eyeliner. This will only age you and takes away the modernity of the look.

Do venture into the turquoise palette. It is a beautiful complement to a tanned complexion.

Don’t ever try to rock a blue eyeshadow with a red lipstick unless you are going to a fancy dress party—and even then I wouldn’t dare.
