A Step-By-Step Guide to Amal Clooney’s Makeup

For her first big outing in Hollywood, Amal Clooney kept things classic in Dior, and her makeup—created by face painter Charlotte Tilbury—followed suit. The look was meant to be “old school Hollywood, but in a way that never dates,” noted the pro. (Though her lipstick didn’t rock the boat, the Je Suis Charlie pin on her clutch certainly made a statement.) When asked if Amal had any jitters, Tilbury replied: “She’s one very cool customer.” Then again, gracing the red carpet at the Golden Globes must seem like a breeze when compared to “investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza strip,” as Tina Fey pointed out during her monologue. Here, a beauty breakdown for the woman who broke the world’s most eligible bachelor:

1. Tilbury prepped Amal’s complexion with her forthcoming Goddess Skin Clay Mask (out in March), which instantly “takes down any spots” and minimizes the look of pores. The pro followed up the treatment with a hydrating dose of her cult-favorite Magic Cream before applying Wonderglow (a light reflecting primer) over top for “dewy Hollywood skin.”

2. A light layer of foundation was followed by a strategic application of The Retoucher concealer. A fair shade was used underneath the eyes, while a medium tone camouflaged any redness around her nose.

3. Arches were filled in with Brow Lift in Cara D and Rock ‘N’ Kohl Eye Pencil in Barbarella Brown was rimmed around eyes for “soft” definition. The “pop” shade from the Luxury eyeshadow palette in The Dolce Vita was washed across lids before the top lashes were coated with three layers of mascara.

4. Tilbury used Filmstar Bronze & Glow to contour Clooney’s jawline, cheekbones, temples, and nose. A blend of two blushes (Love Glow and First Love) was applied to her apples.

5. Lips were outlined with liner in Savage Rose and lipstick in Night Crimson and Red Carpet Red were “blotted” in the center for a matte finish.
