We’ve already seen black eyeliner everywhere this season, but Milan and Paris—the latter only in its second day of shows—are adding to the already comprehensive list of backstage sightings. Here, some of the most creative uses of the classic beauty product on the catwalk.

Today at Rochas, Lucia Pieroni employed Clé de Peau Beauté Cream Liner and a skinny brush to encircle models’ eyes in a graphic “doe-eyed” shape. “[Designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua] wanted something quite simplistic and quite chic but a little odd.”

Motivated by the star motifs in Anthony Vaccarello’s collection, Tom Pecheux used navy liquid liner and matte black powder shadow to create an abstract étoile on the outer corner of models’ eyes.

At Fendi, Peter Philips emphasized mascara smudge marks with painterly “brushstrokes” of black liner.
