For the first time, international ethical beauty brand Lush is opening its 2016 Lush Prize to submissions from Middle Eastern applicants. Now in its fifth year, the Lush Prize is the world’s first science award that aims to end the use of animal testing in the cosmetics and beauty industry.

In a recent press release, the MENA Director of Lush, Anita Baker, said, “Innovation lies at the heart of Lush’s business model hence The Lush Prize has particular resonance here in the Middle East, a region which boasts an incredibly rich history of scientific innovation—notably in the early discovery fields of medicine and chemistry.”

To date, the UK-based beauty brand has granted over US $1.4 million to 55 participants and non-animal testing initiatives around the world, ranging from animal protection organizations in Taiwan to medical universities in Sweden.

Winners of this year’s inaugural prize will be chosen by a panel of expert judges from around the world in September, and awarded their respective prizes at a ceremony to be held in London in November.

Entry submissions for the 2016 Lush Prize open on 25th April 2016 and will close on 24th July 2016. For more details, visit www.lushprize.org.
